CLAXBY PARISH MEETING

 

Draft Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting held in the Village Hall Tuesday May 19th 2026

Meeting opened at 7pm

Present – Chairman Cllr D. Lofthouse, Cllrs B.Hunter, I.Cumber, J.Pilbrow, J.Lofthouse.

1. Draft minutes of previous meeting Tuesday 6th May 2025 were approved and signed by the chairman.

2(a)Report from the Chairman:-

  • Pot holes on roads leading into the village continue to be a serious problem – some have been repaired and some on Park Road are currently marked for repair.
  • Normanby Rise is on the LCC schedule for resurfacing – date for works not yet released.
  • Work to prevent flooding at the A46 junction has to some extent been successful.
  • Playground sign needs to be  amended to a gov.uk address.
  • The Parish Council Environment group led a number of councillors and volunteer villagers who carried out a successful “litter pick” and sign cleaning session.
  • Volunteers from LCC Councillor Volunteer Scheme carried out works for the Parish Council and Viking Centre.
  • There have been a number of fly-tipping incidents on all the roads leading into the village.
  • A donation of six 25kg bags daffodil bulbs from the Rotary Club were distributed and planted. Two bags were split into 2kg bags for villagers and four bags were planted along the outside of the playing field hedge.
  • There have been a number of power cuts in the village and Normanby Rise has been “plagued” with burst water pipes.
  • The Annual Griff Wood service was held in May.
  • To raise funds several concerts have been held in the church, a “Call my Bluff” wine tasting evening and a Harvest BBQ were held in the Viking Centre.
  • The open church event in May showcased many details of life in Claxby, displaying wedding and christening gowns mainly worn by local residents.
  • Work continues in Platts Wood.
  • Renovation work at The Rectory on St Mary’s lane has been completed and is now occupied.
  • Claxby’s oldest resident died in January aged 99.
  • The clerk continued to maintain  the website which is a good source of information and news for the village.
  • Thanks to the all the volunteers, parishioners, clerk and councillors for their continued work throughout the year.

3. Report received on current Parish Council finances from Clerk/Responsible Finance Officer.
