Information on Village Precept, D Day Celebrations and Devolution proposals

Dear Resident

A short newsletter updating you on a couple of items.

Village Precept 2024/25

Now is the time of year when the village precept is determined by the Parish Council and submitted to West Lindsey District Council (WLDC). The precept remained the same for 2021/22 and 2022/23 at £5,407.00, but was increased for the current financial year ending on March 31st to £5,675.00, an increase of £268.00.

You will be aware of the significant number of Parish Council initiatives over the past few years – refurbishment of the village hall, improvements to the playing field including the new car park, telephone box/library, two defibrillators, the King’s Coronation and Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. The majority of these initiatives have been enabled through grants accessed by enthusiastic councillors and residents, with a substantial amount of the work undertaken by volunteers.

Further grant funding has been obtained for approved future projects. The Parish Council has always sought the best value for money.

As for many people, the effects of inflation have impacted upon the Parish Council’s expenditure. Items such as grass cutting, utility costs, clerk’s salary, insurance, and play equipment maintenance have all cost more for 2023/24. It is anticipated our expenditure for 2024/25 will increase again meaning that if the precept remains at £5675.00, our spending will be more than income. Councils are not allowed to have a deficit budget though.

Consequently, to cover the increased expenditure, the Parish Council has approved a precept of £6,500.00 i.e. an increase of £825.00. As an illustration, for a Band D householder the precept increase is from £82.28 for this financial year to £93.40 for 2024/25, i.e. £11.12 per year or 93p per month.

D Day 80 - June 6th 2024

Events are being organized across the country to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, which took place on 6th June 1944. Town and Parish Councils have been asked by the national organising group if they would be willing to organise an event or activities within their communities. If anybody would like to help with the planning and preparation for a local event to commemorate this historical occasion, could they please contact Colin Saywell at colin.saywell54@gmail.com or phone 07837575884.

Greater Lincolnshire devolution proposal

The consultation has now finished. Whoever has the proposal booklet could they please place it back in the phone box/library or post it through Colin Saywell’s letter box? Thanks.

Yours sincerely,

Claxby Parish Councillors
